April 2016:Pleasant Valley Botanicals is introducing a new (green)house band “Ginger and the Adaptogens”. Woo-woo: Holy Basil is in the (green)house! Our new-to-us greenhouse is up and quickly getting filled, allowing Pleasant Valley Botanicals to increase the herbal offerings for this year’s Community Support Agriculture program. Right now the greenhouse is hosting a range of Adaptogens: Ashwagandha, Goji, Astragalus, Codonopsis, Schisandra, and Vana, Kapoor, Rama and Krishna Holy Basils. The term adaptogen has become popularized to mean a class of herbs that are nontoxic, help the body better manage stress, enhance performance, and work as natural, homeostatic metabolic regulators. A few of these friends, like Goji, will not be ready for this year’s CSA, but we are always looking forward to future seasons. Last year’s CSA had 60 different herbs; with 38 new herbs being grown this year, I anticipate an even greater variety of herbs in each CSA share in 2016.
