My lovingly grown medicinal herbs are primarily for the Pleasant Valley Botanicals Herb Community Supported Agriculture program, but this year brings an abundance of a few herbs including White Sage, and Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and more. Ashwagandha dried root is in the class of herbs called adaptogens, and has been used traditionally for fatigue, anxiety, sexual exhaustion, stress-induced insomnia, infertility, and for prolonging life. In Ayurvedic medicine, Ashwagandha is prominent rasayana- loosely defined as a strengthening tonic herb important for revitalization. Ashwagandha is also a warming herb, perfect for heading into fall and winter. Precautions listed for Ashwagandha include: not to be used during pregnancy or with allergy to plants in the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
I will have Ashwagandha and a few other fresh herbs available for sale this coming Thursday Sept 29 from 3:30-5:30 pm at the CSA barn at Holcomb Farm, at 113 Simsbury Rd, West Granby, CT 06090. An updated list of herbs will be posted on my HERE with any changes or additions. Please note, all herb harvest will be to order only, so you must place an order by Wed 28th 6pm by email that also includes a phone number. I will email you back with confirmation, and I request your phone number ONLY to call if I am unable to fulfill an order due to unexpected catastrophe (realizing it is a bit of a drive for some). If you place an order, I request payment by cash (exact change if possible) or check. The Holcomb Farm barn also will have a variety of vegetables for sale, as well as locally produced foods such as bread, tortilla chips, honey and maple syrup, goat cheese, meats, eggs and more!
